Macro is all the rage right now, right?  Well if your budget is tight but you’d still like to get some nice close shots you’ll be happy to know your standard zoom can get pretty darn close.  Since the minimum focus distance doesn’t change, the secret is to set your lens to the furthest focal length to get the greatest magnification.  For instance, if your lens is 24-85mm then you’ll want to zoom in to 85mm, focus, and then snap your picture for the closest shot.
