Over or Under – You’re The Judge

Everyone has different tastes when it comes to post processing photography.  There are artists who manipulate the pixel beyond what I thought was possible to create really different and beautiful photographs and then there are those of us who prefer the more natural look with very little processing.

There are very few cameras that can produce JPEG’s that need no post processing so there is a pretty good chance at some time or another you’ll find yourself at your computer about to adjust sliders this way and that to bring out the best of your images.  But how much is too much?

Below is an image taken with the Fujifilm X100S as a JPEG and then processed using Lightroom 4.  Your job is to determine whether it’s been over or under processed.  Anyone can submit a photograph for critique by using the Submit an Article link in the main menu above.

So what do you think?

Over or Under is a great way to get feedback on your processing skills.  Submit your before and after photograph through Submit an Article and get some feedback.  This works best if you, the reader, leave a comment with some tips if you feel like you know what would help.  As always keep things positive and encouraging. Thanks!

I think you did an excellent job with the flowers, a huge improvement over the original shot. I do have an issue with the sky, though. It appears to me to be an unnatural shade of blue. I believe an adjustment to the hue would correct that and create a more realistic looking sky. Just my two cents.

Thanks! I agree but I was playing around with some split toning and gave the highlights that blue hue you see. I’m not a huge fan of split toning but it’s fun to play with now and again.
